Kitchen Remodel

The 3 Most Common Kitchen Remodel Mistakes

Remodeling a kitchen, bathroom or really any part of your home can be both exciting and nerve racking.  Whether you are doing the remodel yourself or using outside expertise, there are certain things you have to get right.  And, when it comes to your kitchen, which is the center of a homes universe, you want to hit a home run.

Our years of experience have taught us many things, including some very common mistakes that homeowners make when remodeling their kitchens.  Check out our take on the 3 most common kitchen remodel mistakes.

Mistake #1 – Cabinetry

This is a big one.  Cabinets can and should set off the look and feel of a kitchen and your home.  Where do your eyes tend to go when you enter a room. The kitchen! So, where do remodelers go wrong?  Budget allocation. There are many opportunities to increase the value and aesthetics of your home and none better then quality cabinetry.  Consider allocating 60% of your remodel budget towards cabinets. Also, technology is providing a great opportunity to view your kitchen concept in a 3D environment prior to purchasing, so take advantage.

Mistake #2 – Measuring

When designing your kitchen, imagine opening every single door at the same time. Is there anything that might come into contact? If you’re not sure, break out the measuring tape.  And, as the old adage states, measure twice. Even If you are using a professional to remodel your kitchen, review their plans for the remodel and specifically look at the measurements and verify they are correct.

Mistake #3 – Power

Whether it’s your Insta Pot or your Iphone, your kitchen is full of electronics that run off of electricity.  Typically, when a home gets built, the builder puts in the minimal amount of outlets to get you by. Unfortunately, with all of the contraptions we use in a kitchen, more, not less, is needed.  Don’t skimp or go cheap with this either. Add more outlets than you think you’ll need and throw in a couple of USB charging ports.
